ILS Speaker Series: SLAT Drafting with an AI Twist: Introducing a Novel Drafting Process
June 17 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm EDT
Webinar Description
Earlier this year, we presented “Thirty-One Flavors of SLATs” — a webinar designed to illustrate the wide variety of options that should be considered when drafting Spousal Lifetime Access Trusts. In that presentation, we found far more than thirty-one ways to craft an irrevocable trust with the trust creator’s spouse as the primary beneficiary. We planned a follow-up drafting workshop to demonstrate a novel process — collaborative, AI-assisted, and built to deliver more value to the client. That workshop has arrived.
Frequent commentators Jonathan Blattmachr and Martin Shenkman are joined by attorneys Thomas Tietz and Teresa Bush to demonstrate a collaborative SLAT drafting session. The speakers use an automated document assembly system to illustrate drafting options for a hypothetical (but not ultra-wealthy) client, discussing those options as they go — considering choices, making decisions, and explaining why provisions are included or omitted for this particular client.

The presentation then shows how the recorded session can generate first a transcript and then a draft client communication that explains why choices were made, giving the client a different perspective on the complexity of this work. The AI tools used to generate the client memo are introduced, along with why drafting together carries real advantages over drafting alone.
