Heckerling Themes and Takeaways: Reviewing the Most Important Topics Discussed at the 2026 Institute and More
January 29 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Webinar Description
The 60th Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning was held in Orlando, Florida, on January 12-16, 2026. The Institute is the preeminent estate planning conference of the year and always provides a full week of valuable seminars covering a broad range of estate planning issues for all types of practitioners and all types of clients. Not only does the Institute inform planners of new developments from the past year and state-of-the-art estate planning techniques, but it also includes an array of eclectic topics to broaden the knowledge and perspective of practitioners attending.
Each year we find it impossible to condense this massive amount of education into 90 minutes. Therefore, this presentation will provide an overview of the highlights of this Institute and identify core themes and takeaways that will inform planners about what to expect in 2026.
Those highlights include:

- Recent decisions, including differing powers of appointment over different sub-trusts, loan issues, and Galli, Rowland, and portability
- The intersection of Family Law and Estate Planning – SLATs, divorce, other matrimonial issues, ethics, and more
- Creative trust planning strategies – splitting and splicing and why split interest purchases in trust are better than GRATs and QPRTs
- Trust administration issues, including inherited retirement assets in trust
- Addressing conflict/choice of law issues
- And, of course, OBBBA
We look forward to having you join us.
