Melbourne, FL – InterActive Legal, a knowledge company and software solutions provider in the legal arena of trusts and estates, elder law and special needs planning, announced this month the promotion of its 5-year veteran Director of Content Development, Vanessa Kanaga to the office of President, as of July 1. She will be involved in directing the day-to-day operations of the company, and will work with CEO, Michael L. Graham, to guide its future direction.
Graham announced the decision citing, “Vanessa is a battle tested estate planning attorney who understands the needs of contemporary estate planning lawyers and will help usher in the next technological wave to our industry.” Ms. Kanaga, 38, began her career with InterActive Legal’s other Partner and renowned Trust & Estates attorney, Jonathan Blattmachr in New York. After moving from New York to her home state of Kansas, she was recruited by Blattmachr in 2013 to join InterActive Legal’s Content Development Team.
Ms. Kanaga received her J.D. from Cornell Law School, Magna Cum Laude, in 2006, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Wichita State University, with a minor in Music, in 2003. During law school, Vanessa was an Editor for the Cornell International Law Journal, and a Teaching Assistant for Terrorism and the Law. She also served as a Legal Intern in the City Attorney’s Office in Ithaca, New York during the Summer of 2004. In 2011, Vanessa received an Advanced Professional Certificate from New York University School of Law.
Following law school, Vanessa practiced in New York for several years, at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, LLP, and then Moses & Singer, LLP. In 2012, she returned to her home town of Wichita, Kansas, where she was an associate attorney in the estate planning and probate practice group at Hinkle Law Firm, LLC, before joining InterActive Legal. Outside of her professional life, Vanessa can be found spending time with her husband, Mark, and her dog, Willow, or training for her newly-discovered hobby of competing in sprint triathlons.
