Estate Planning Basics Series

The Estate Planning Basics Series offered by InterActive Legal Academy is an introduction to estate planning documents and concepts, with a focus on how property is transferred both at death and during lifetime.


The Spring 2024 Estate Planning Basics Series
will be held from April 1 to April 30, 2024


This series focuses on the essential concepts every estate planner needs to know in order to begin advising estate planning clients and drafting estate planning documents. Attendees will gain knowledge of the key documents in an estate plan, how they are structured, and why they are important. Topics will include: When to use a revocable trust and why; special considerations when planning for spouses, descendants, and other beneficiaries; testamentary trusts; and lifetime planning.

A variety of estate planning documents will be covered, along with drafting tips and examples. Over the eight-week course, attendees will learn how property passes at death and how estate planning documents operate. Sessions will cover how and when to use Wills, Revocable Trusts, and Irrevocable Trusts, as well as other standard documents such as Durable Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directives, Living Wills, and more.

When is this series presented?

The Spring 2024 Estate Planning Basics Series will be held in April beginning with an informational session on Monday, April 1st, and ending with the Bonus Session on Tuesday, April 30th.

Who should attend this series?

This series is designed for those who are new to the field of estate planning and wish to learn about the basic concepts relevant to preparing an estate plan. It is appropriate for recent law school graduates, paralegals, and other legal professionals working with estate planning documents, as well as attorneys transitioning into estate planning from other areas of the law.

Who should NOT attend this series?

This series is not appropriate for those who already have a grasp of the basic concepts and documents involved in preparing an estate plan. It is also not appropriate for those who are looking for in-depth coverage of tax planning topics (those who fall into this category should consider the Estate Planning Tax Series offered in the Fall).
